It’s been almost 2 years since we have heard anything new by Brazil. The band as a whole has gone through a lot since their last release in 2004. Give Brazil, any label you would like just remember that they know how to make some incredible music.

This Philosophy of Velocity opens with an instrumental piano driven track and ends on the same note. By the second track you are introduces to what is going to be the theme of the album; dark and raw songs. This is almost what the entire album is like; there are very few things that change throughout the progression of the album. Despite the fact that every song is almost flawless and written incredibly well both musically and lyrically, there is not a song that pops out at you that you will want to listen to over and over again. The songs are able to put you in a different mood, but if you are looking for an album that will have one song on it that you want to listen to on repeat, then don’t buy this CD. On the other hand though, this could be a blessing in disguise for Brazil because you will want to listen to the album all the way through every time.

The Philosophy of Velocity is an engaging album that utilizes progressive-rock with raw, fast, and loud song but at the same time using melodies and infusing a calmer, slower feeling. The lyrics are exceptional and brought to life with the emotion that Jonathon Newby pours into them. The musicianship and the ability that Brazil has to write song that are raw and don’t have a polished overdone studio produced feeling is evident. All 12 of the tracks on this album, send a rush of emotion throughout your body. Brazil created a really good album plain and simple. The Philosophy of Velocity is a comeback album that will make a statement and will let people know just who the band, Brazil is.
