Sara: For the record state your name and what you do in Yellowcard.
Sean: Sean Mackin, I play violin and sing for Yellowcard.
Sara: What would you change about the current music scene?
Sean: I don’t know, I feel like it’s not my place to change it. Yellowcard definitely fits in it’s own spot and I think we are very happy with were we are at. There is so much going on with technology I think that it’s important for Yellowcard to stay on to of that and not fantasize about changing it.
Sara: Your new release [Paper Walls] is going to be released right before the end of your stint on Warped Tour what are so advantages and disadvantages of this?
Sean: I think there are any disadvantages we are just really excited for the release of Paper Walls on July 15th Warped Tour is just a win-win situation. We’ve had so many wonderful memories being on Warped Tour. This is our 4th year and it’s a blast all the fans and the band everyone works together so well. So it’s really just a win-win situation.
Sara: How would you say your music has changed since your initial success with Ocean Avenue?
Sean: Yellowcard’s music has definitely evolved. I think our new album, Paper Walls is the best that Yellowcard has to offer we still have that evolution of sounds and that straight forward rock edge that we developed on Lights And Sounds but yet we blended it with kinda what we were good at with Ocean Avenue and what we were good at back then, like melodies and the energy so we really just blended the two sounds and found a really nice balance, and then what you have is Paper Walls.
Sara: Is that what people should expect from it or is there anything…
Sean: No, I think that… well the record leaked on the internet as you know
Sara: Yeah…
Sean: I think that our listeners and fans are finding it at it’s own pace. I think that Yellowcard’s sound has always been something that through the course of the record people want the entire thing not just oh here’s a single and here’s the filler. I think that the songs have something to offer for everyone. We like to have a body of work that is complete and that’s what we’ve done with this one.
Sara: When your CD was released what were you feelings about that?
Sean: Well, I kinda knew it was going to leak anyway because every record leaks with the internet. That’s just the way it is, our tour manager worked closely with our record label and they had armed security, briefcases, and handcuffs everywhere and it still leaked before it came out. So it’s going to leak and I was like “that’s okay it’s alright”. Our fans, the Yellowcard fans are the best fans in the world and it’s more like test drive they’ll go out and listen to it and then buy the album and come support us.
Sara: After Warped Tour you are going tour with Lovedrug and Shiny Toy Guns, what’s this tour going to be like?
Sean: We are actually going to be supporting Blue October that’s the band that they chose and it really gives Yellowcard an opportunity to do something we haven’t done in a while which is support another band and also it’s something different. It’s show the other listeners and we have the opportunity to play our songs for them. Yellowcard does a really good at branching out to audiences it’s part of Yellowcard’s goal to play for as many people as possible.
Sara: What do you think makes a band successful?
Sean: I think our work ethic makes Yellowcard successful we’ve always just gone out and tried to be original. We have just a relentless tour schedule every year like 330 shows a year and so how many bands tour like that we are very focused and very excited about our new release Paper Walls.
Sara: What was the moment when you realized that you wanted to Yellowcard for a career?
Sean: When I looked at the other 4 members of the band and we all agreed that we loved music and that we had a real chance and we believed in one another. I don’t think that there was an actual day… it also reminds me every day when I see them having as much fun as they do on stage with me like it’s a constant reminder that we have a really good team with Yellowcard.
Sara: Who’s your favorite Boy Meets World character?
Sean: The show… I don’t really know the characters names… the older brother.
Sara: Eric?
Sean: Eric?
Sara: Yeah
Sean: Eric, yeah I like him.
Sara: Do you have anything else to say to the World Wide Web?
Sean: Yellowcard would just like to thank they fans. We have the best fans in the world we definitely would not be doing for a living if it was not for them. So thank you guys!
